This time of year we greet with anticipation
Some with joy, some with dread
A time to remember a birth
A gift from Heaven, to us
Remembering a life quite unlike any other
So pure and innocent
Holy and strong
A Light unto us, shown so brightly
Created to die in perfection
The memory of this birth, corrupted
By greed
Consumerism
Selfishness
Stress, worry, and fear
Over the “perfect” gift
But what about the One we’ve already received?
Not wrapped in paper, but in shreds of burlap
Not placed under a tree, but in a manger
No clamoring in crowds or standing in lines
Just a father, mother, and Son
And some shepherds come to see
And to worship
This gift of Life, One for all
The only One we’ll need
