A void
A space where he would have been

A photo
A picture of a face remembered
Not flesh or blood or warmth
Just a cold emptiness where he should be

A memory
A blurred snapshot of time
Instead of a person
A thought
Ideals of the life that could have been
Not plans or hopes or dreams
Just glimpses of a future that could have been

Instead of a person
A burden
A heaviness of sorrow and pain
Instead of a person
A bitterness
Outbursts of tears for the time lost
Not joy or gladness or glee
Just cries over a life taken too soon

Instead of a person
A wish
A desire to just be close again
Instead of a person
A hope
A dream of seeing him again someday
Not in this life, perhaps
Just a little longer;
And for eternity.
